Daddy's Barbershop

After much persuading, Mackenzie allowed me to cut Kieran's hair. It is getting hot and it being summer I decided he needed a summer do. He actually sat really still and only wriggled when the clippers vibrated near his ears.

I think It turned out pretty sharp. His haircut makes him look even more like a little boy. It is really getting thick. Mackenzie doesn't really like it, but you know what they say hair grows. She better get used to it, this is it for the next 17yrs.

You look handsome Kieran.

Happy Birthday Kieran

I can't believe my little baby is already 1. People always say they grow up so fast, but you don't fully understand that until you watch your own child grow up. It has gone by so fast and while it is exciting to see him grow up it is sad at the same time because I want him to stay my little baby. his personality is really starting to shine through. He is such a happy little boy who is always smiling and on the go to see what new he can discover.

It was so exciting to watch him open his presents on his birthday. Although he is still too young to realize what was going on he was so excited and happy to get some new toys. He got spoiled. We decided after the fact that we went a bit overboard but, what can you do it's our first babies 1st birthday. My parents decided last minute that they didn't want to miss his first birthday and drove down for the weekend, they spoiled him aswell and brought with them some packages from his Aunties in Utah. Grandma Rhonda and his Aunt Kirsten and my aunt Heather also sent him some gifts in the mail. Thanks for all the presents, Kieran may not be able to say thank you but he loves wearing, reading and playing with them.

We wanted to have a little party for Kieran. A pool party. We invited every kid under age 2 we know. And lots of them were able to come. We had about 12 kids and some of their parents. We were a little worried about the weather cause the whole week leading up to his party was cool and gloomy, even the morning of it drizzled a little bit, but it turned out to be perfect weather not too hot. We set up some toys in the backyard and put up some kiddie pools and a sandbox. We decorated the backyard with balloons and fish and Mackenzie and my mom made some yummy treats. We were so glad my parents came down they ended up being such a great help. It was so much fun and all the little kids loved it. Kieran was the crankiest of the bunch in the begining, we found out at his Dr's appt. on the Monday after, that he is getting 3 molars at the same time, so he has a good excuse. He loved all the attention and even got a birthday kiss form his friend Donovan. It was so fun too see all the little kids playing together, and fighting over toys. They all loved the heated pools and playing in the sand. The food was good and everyone had a good time.

Mackenzie made a completely edible pool cake it looked awesome and tasted great too. she made cupcakes and her signature sugar cookies. Kieran blew out his candle, and demolished his cupcake. He loved the frosting and just about ate the whole thing. The guests all got their party favors a sand bucket, bubbles, shades, tattoos and some treats. It was fun planning setting up and having party, and although Kieran is too young to say thank you, the smile on his face, and to watch him point at all the new things in the backyard made it all worth it. He is such a sweet little boy that I love so much. I am such a proud father and it makes me so happy when I know he is happy and having a good time. He was so spoiled by all the attendee's, many of whom read this blog so thank you all very much. We now have a new collection of colorful, flashing lights toy's that make plenty of noise and play a whole new arrangement of obnoxious tunes and melodies.

Gardening

After months of "planning" to plant flowers we finally planted due to Kieran's birthday party coming. You would think since I am a flower person they would have been in the minute we moved into our house. But no, I just kept not making it a priority so it didn't get done. I am so sad I put it off because now our backyard looks much better. Kieran had a so much fun helping. I love it, he is such a boy! He loves dirt, sand, bugs, rocks, anything to do with being outside. I have a hard time keeping him inside these days. Anytime a door opens Kieran makes a mad dash to get outside and if I close the door he starts to cry. Back to gardening, we planted a variety of pretty flowers in our backyard and a few in the front.

Kieran helped digging the holes, getting really dirty, and eating a few rocks. I also make a succulent arrangement for the table from a pot that was originally going to be a bird bath but just had yucky water and rocks in it and Kieran liked to put his hands in...GROSS. (Made me miss being creative with plants and flowers). We're all ready for the party....HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE KIEKI.

Party Party

Kieran's friend Donovan had his first birthday party. It was a lot of fun! There was a lot of yummy food, friends, kids. Chicken Little even made an appearance, and made balloons for the kids. There was a pinata that Kieran wasn't too sure about and got a little nervous when the big kids where whacking it but he enjoyed a lollipop afterwards. For cake we had Sprinkles Cupcakes. Hands down the BEST cupcakes in the world, They are so moist and every bite just melts in your mouth. Enough with the cupcake passion we had a good time, thanks Kevin and Anne.

BBQ

Johnathan loves to bbq. And we both love eating it. He was really proud of his Pork loin and made me take a picture. If you lean in close you can smell it. It had been marinating for a day in a Ginger Mango Glaze. He is a really good cook and always says when/if he is loaded he would open up a small eatery. That only serves Breakfast and Lunch. Not a chain, but a really good(what would become a "local spot") That serves only like 6-7 items and has 5 different kinds of cupcakes for dessert. He can't give out his recipe, cause he says it may be on the menu one day- A pulled pork sandwich w/mango ginger bbq sauce, followed by a key lime pie cupcake.

Into everything!

You give your Kid one diet coke and he'll do what ever it takes to get his hands on another one. He's learned to pry open the fridge and cupboards and go for whatever he wants. Pots, pans clothes, socks you name it. We try to keep the harmful stuff in the childproof(incredibly annoying for us to open now cupboards).

Now that Kieran is mobile and fast he is getting into everything. We thought the house was pretty well "baby proofed", but we learned fast. He'll pass up on all his toys to dig in the cupboards, the fridge or play with all of moms tins.

He thinks it's hilarious to take all the shoes out of the shoe bin and then, one by one put them all back in. He is growing up so fast and his little personality is becoming stronger and more distinct everyday. He loves being outside, he'll hear a door open and make a dash for it. It's really cute, when he is on the grass. I don't think he likes how the grass feels on his knees. The second his hands touch the grass it's so funny to watch. So when he's wearing shorts he'll switch from crawling on his knees - to a bear crawl, on his hands and feet. Then when he gets to the pathway or the patio he'll go back to crawling.

It's all fun and games till somebody gets stuck on the elliptical, yes the cords are safely tucked away. Kieran loves climbing on it, the other day it started moving and he got toO scared to move to climb off(made for a great picture)

We went to the Aquarium on the Pacific, in Long Beach. It is a great Aquarium. It is really well organized and has a huge selection of sea life. Kieran loved it. He loved being able to see all the "things" swimming in the water, and being able to touch the rays and starfish. It is so nice living in a city where there is so much to do and see and so much going on.
